History & Mission Statement

What’s the deal with Breakmark?

We often will go out of our way to make things right, as we take it pretty personally when teams are upset and really do want to do everything we can to make everyone happy.

How we got here.

Ultimate is really a unique sport, and I instantly fell in love with it when I got to Brandeis. I wanted to be able to show my pride, not only for my team, but for this awesome sport. When I had trouble finding gear that I liked, I decided I would make my own.

My goal was to provide the Ultimate community a place to shop where affordable gear could be offered without sacrificing quality. I took the idea behind Breakmark, a throw that is not the easiest to make, and applied this concept to our business. Its not always easy to do the right thing, and sure, we have had our fair share of mistakes, but we stand behind our apparel and make sure to do right by our customers.

Breakmark is a family run company, and we feel like our customers are an extended part of our family. I’m sure most of you who have seen us at tournaments have met me, my dad or brother. We all really enjoy spending time with you all at tournaments hanging out and catching up. The community is so warm and caring that its easy to feel like everyone is your brother or sister.

Goals Moving Forward.
Lately, Ive been thinking more about this concept of family and juxtaposing it alongside the idea of what “Breakmark” means in ultimate. We started out trying to shake things up, and my goals for 2014 – 2016 are to keep shaking things up. In addition to the consistent products you’ve come to know, we are working to grow our family and business. A big focal point for our company is also to reach out and do good in the community, and here is how we intend to do it:

  • All tournaments moving forward will have a percentage of sales go toward a new scholarship fund so that in the spring of 2015 we will be able to provide to one female and one male athlete a scholarship for school.
  • A percentage of team sales will be donated to a national Breast Cancer Charity
  • A percentage of online sales will be donated to a national Autism Charity

Some of you may ask, “why these three things?” and “what is special about them?” I don’t know about you, but I certainly did not have enough money to just pay for school outright. Heck, I’m still paying for school and I graduated in 2008! Since I started this company, this has been something I have wanted to do, and I see no reason to keep procrastinating.

Personally, Breast Cancer and Autism are things that this family holds very dear to our hearts. We have all been touched in some way by some of the hard realities of life, so I don’t need to get in to all the personal details. I will say that our family wants to do what it can to help other families out.

Our community is a special one, and I think that we can band together to make some serious positive changes out there. These are some ways that Breakmark is planning to make some changes, and break the mark. But I challenge you all to make changes in your community. Adopt the Breakmark philosophy and do things that aren’t always the easy thing to do.
